If you look at these maps you are able to see the movements of both sides of the battle. And as you can see the Union was the aggressor and was pushing the confederate back throughout the whole battle, showing that they had the upper hand in the battle. Also you can see that the Union has almost double the amount of men fighting for them.

These are pictures of confederate soldiers that were sent to there homes when they die or when they were sent home/died. As you can see both of them are young, statistics say that most that fought in the war were teenage boys and young men.
These are Union soldiers, the one black man was either a past slave or a free American man that wants to fight for the Union. Although we don't know where these soldiers were born, most white soldiers born in a border state he had a high chance of fighting against his own family members.
